WESCOORD/WASH SECTOR
WESCOORD (Water and Environmental Sanitation Coordination) mechanism brings together the many agencies active in responding to the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) needs of populations in 22 priority districts both arid and semi-arid affected by drought, floods, conflict, food insecurity and water borne diseases.

WESCOORD is a sectoral specialist group under the Kenya Food Security Steering Group (KFSSG) lead by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MoWI), Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and co-chaired by UNICEF with a permanent Secretariat based at MoWI HQ, 2nd Floor Room 214, MAJI House.

WESCOORD'S main objectives are:
  • To ensure coordination of and support to WASH measures in times of drought emergencies.
  • To coordinate and support WASH preparedness, risk reduction and recovery measures after drought
WESCOORD is open to all sector stakeholders; NGOs, FBOs, CBOs, UN agencies, GoK, private sector, donor organisations etc. Agencies attending on a regular basis are considered core members.
